FAQ

Does this tool calculate exact UCR fees?

No. UCR fees change annually and this tool does not store fee tables. It directs you to the UCR Plan fee-brackets page at plan.ucr.gov, which is the authoritative source for the current registration year's exact bracket amounts.

Why is the registration year different from when I register?

UCR registration for a given calendar year typically opens in October of the prior year. When you register in October or November 2025, you are registering for the 2026 registration year. Registering for the wrong year and then having to re-register for the correct year is one of the most common UCR mistakes.

Are trailers counted toward fleet size?

No. UCR fleet size is based on the number of commercial motor vehicles — power units like trucks, tractors, and buses — that operate in interstate commerce. Trailers are not counted. An owner-operator with one truck and multiple trailers registers in the 1–2 vehicle bracket.

Do I need UCR if I'm based in a non-participating state?

UCR applies based on where you operate, not where you are based. Carriers operating in UCR participating states must register even if their home state does not collect UCR fees. Verify applicability with the UCR Plan if operating across state lines.

Does the tool use an external API or save input?

No. Everything runs in the browser. No data is transmitted and no input is retained after the page closes.
